Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Summary 

A School Nurse is an expert who ensures every student can access mental and physical health services throughout the day. They work with teachers and parents or guardians on behalf of their patients to create care plans for them when needed, including medication management if necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Performs registered nursing duties including administering first aid and screening of all students who become ill or injured, evaluations and proper referrals, and maintaining comprehensive health records and usual programs of screening, e.g. vision, hearing, and growth.
  • Diagnose sick students to call home, send to kids to class, or know when to call an ambulance.
  • Care for injured students
  • Set up specific health projects (8th grade vaccines, COVID testing, etc.)
  • Maintains all the files and records, including necessary reports, related to providing healthcare services in a school setting.
  • Assists teachers with information and materials in health education.
  • Make time available for conferences with teachers, parents and groups in interpretation and follow-up.
  • Be available for on-site emergencies.
  • Encourage compliance with immunization against other diseases.
  • Contact tracing for Covid-19 
  • Everything else that a typical school nurse would need to do.

Requirements

  • Have a conferred associate or bachelor’s degree within Nursing, be licensed as a registered nurse (RN) within the State of Missouri
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, familiar with Google Suite
  • Demonstrated passion for the mission, vision and values of Kairos Academies: St. Louis; comfort and willingness to actively participate in the school and neighborhood community.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel, students, and parents.  Preferred fluent in Spanish.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Ability and competence in Microsoft Office applications and ability to use a variety of computer applications and platforms. Ability to use basic office equipment. Also, knowledge and experience in using a computer-based student Information Management system.

The noise level is low to high and may have frequent interruptions. There may be activity from other employees and students of a distracting nature.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS

Satisfactory criminal records check, pre-hire and annually thereafter, if applicable. Must be eligible to work in the United States and provide work authorization.

Starting Salary: From $40,000 annually based on experience.

Schedule:

  • Monday through Friday 7:45am- 4:00pm 
    • Some weekends and evenings will be required.
